Dear Readers of Sino-Indonesia Cultural and Economic Association.
First of all, we in Indonesia Economic and Trade Office to Taipei are proud to convey our congratulations to Sino-Indonesia Cultural and Economic Association (SICEA) for its 40th anniversary.

Established in 40 years ago, at 1971, Sino-Indonesia Cultural and Economic Association has become one of a great contributor for strengthening collaboration in developing economic, trade, and cultural with Indonesia, Indonesian overseas circle, and domestic enterpreneur in accordance with Taiwan government policy. In investment, SICEA has assisted Taiwanese bussinesmen to invest in Indonesia by publishing guidance and holding investment seminar. SICEA has also succeded for improving friendship between Taiwan and Indonesia, and encourage educational cooperation between Indonesia and Taiwan by providing yearly scholarship for Indonesian overseas students.

Dynamic development of economic and trade relations between Indonesia and Taiwan continues to increase today. A number of MoU between Indonesia and Taiwan have been signed, such as the MoU for the protection of labor,educational cooperation, fisheries cooperation, and others. In the year 2011 (till May), the export value of Indonesia to Taiwan increased 23.26%, while imports from Taiwan increased 34.40%, resulting in a surplus for Indonesia.

In the field of investment, the value of Taiwanese investment into Indonesia in the period of January 2000 – December 2010 is stable in the top 10, although previously been ranked 5th. For the labor sector, there is increased quite sharply to reach 167,000 people. There are approximately 14.9% increase in the number of Taiwan tourists to Indonesia, and is predicted to reach 200,000 people by the end of 2011. While in the field of education, the number of Indonesian students in Taiwan had reached 2,500 people. We expect this positive trend will continue in the future, and certainly a good partnership with SICEA as information media would be one of the key in maintaining this good relations.

This 40th anniversary , is a remarkable achievement for SICEA as civic organization. It needs consistency, good leadership, and also outstanding creativity for a civic organization to be able to move up to 40 years. We at IETO believe that SICEA will continue to grow and succeed in performing its primary role to bring a better communication and interactive between people of Indonesia and Taiwan.
